Six catches to check

What AliExpress says about free shipping
AliExpress’s commitment page states these terms. It says the terms can change, so check the current wording.
- Choice items. “Free shipping over $10 on all Choice items.” What AliExpress Choice is.
- Free returns. The page says the first return on each order is free, up to 5 times per month, within the order protection period.
- Late or lost parcels. Items with a “Fast Delivery” label are assured to arrive by the estimated date. For items without it, if the order hasn’t arrived within 60, 75, 90 or 120 days of shipment, you can apply for a refund and keep the item. Free shipping doesn’t remove these protections, but check the terms for your order.
The catch inside the return rules
AliExpress’s Free Return terms, effective since 2019 and open to amendment, contain details that matter if you might return something.
- Conditional free shipping. If a product has conditional free shipping and your partial return means the free-shipping condition is no longer met, AliExpress says it will deduct the shipping costs borne on the seller’s behalf from your refund. In plain terms: returning one item from a multi-item order could cost you the shipping.
- Return shipping. The terms say buyers who don’t use the Free Delivery Service pay the cost of returning the item to the free-return warehouse.
- Condition of the item. The item must meet AliExpress’s standard of intactness. If it doesn’t, the terms say the warehouse ships it back to you at your cost.
- Repeated use. If AliExpress decides a buyer has abused free returns, the buyer can be charged all shipping costs and lose future eligibility.

Is the price hiding the shipping?
Sometimes. The clearest way to find out is to compare full totals. This example is an illustration, not real listings.

In this example the totals are nearly the same, and Listing B arrives sooner. That’s why the total and the delivery date matter more than the word “free”. Refundy, a cashback company, reports that Choice listings have run about 10% to 25% above identical non-Choice listings, averaging about 17%. Treat that as a vendor claim, and check the listings you’re comparing.
When free shipping is a good deal
- The total is lower than a comparable listing with paid shipping.
- The delivery date works for you.
- The item is low value and you’re unlikely to return part of an order.
- You’ve selected your exact variant and the free-shipping line still shows.
When to pay for shipping instead
- You have a deadline, so a faster paid option or a Fast Delivery label is worth the fee.
- The item is valuable or fragile, and fuller tracking matters.
- You might return part of a multi-item order.
